chiefsmithChief Smith was born in Gilmer and raised in Gladewater. He graduated from Gladewater in 1973 and attended Kilgore Junior College obtaining an Associates of Applied Science Degree.

Chief Smith is married with 2 grown sons. He is a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, State Firemen's & Fire Marshall's Association, Kilgore College Fire Academy Board, Vice-President L.E.P.C., First Call Sub-Committee, Boy Scouts of America, Lions Club Charter Organization Representative, Habitat for Humanity and a volunteer for the Manna House.

Chief Smith enjoys his career in fire service because of the people he meets and because he is also able to help others in their time of need. 

 

Chief Smith's fire service started in February 1977 with the Gladewater Fire Department for about 2 ? years. He worked for the Kilgore Fire Department for about 5 ? years. After a very brief departure from the fire service, he was re-employed with the Gladewater Fire Department in January 1986. He worked his way up through the ranks of lieutenant, captain, deputy chief and promoted to Chief in February 1994.
