CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- MUST be a United States Citizen.
- MUST be at least 18 years of age or older on the commencement of the term filled at the election.
- MUST be a registered voter of the City of Gladewater as of the filing deadline.
- MUST have resided continuously in Texas for twelve (12) months and the City for 6 months immediately preceding filing deadline.
- MUST NOT have been finally convicted of a felony (unless pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities).
- MUST satisfy any other requirement prescribed by law for the office.

Candidate Packets, including the application are available in the City Clerk's office the first week of January. Candidates are strongly encouraged to obtain a candidate packet.
Forms are available on the Secretary of State website and the Texas Ethics Commission website but the full Candidate Packet is obtained from the City Clerk.

OVERVIEW
The City of Gladewater is a Home Rule City with a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council consists of seven members; six Council members and a Mayor. Five members constitute a quorum.
City Council members are elected at large, by position number, and serve two year terms, with no term limits. Positions 1, 2 & 3 are elected in even-numbered years, with the mayor designated as position number 1. Positions 4, 5, 6 & 7 are elected in odd-numbered years. By virtue of the City Charter, the Mayor and City Council members are compensated $100 per year for their services.
Regular City Council meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Gladewater City Hall located at 519 E. Broadway.
General Election - Early Voting and Election Day Voting Held at City Hall, 519 E. Broadway Avenue, Gladewater, Texas.
The requirements/qualifications to serve on the Gladewater City Council are found in the Home Rule Charter:
Article III, Section 20(b)
No person shall be eligible as a candidate for the Council unless he or she shall be eighteen (18) years of age or older on commencement of the term to be elected, a qualified voter, a citizen of the United States and a resident citizen of this State for a period of twelve (12) months prior to the date of the election. The candidate for Mayor and Council must be a resident of the City, must have resided in the City for a period of six (6) months prior to the date of election, and must continuously reside within the City during his or her term of office.
